I have also been trying to change the color of the background for Word Art. There's a number of links online that include false information. To add the text, stay on the Insert tab and click Text Box in the Text group. Click and drag out your text box on the picture. Click and drag out your text box on the picture. Make the text nice and chunky so that we can see the transparent effect properly.

Cut and paste is the only option that I am aware of. Just as an abundance of caution, I would make a back-up of your document before you begin cutting out of it, just in case some text gets lost moving between documents. Also, be sure to utilize the Clipboard option in modern versions of WORD that can store multiple copy segments. This can be particularly effective utilizing key strokes for example Ctrl+c (Copy), Ctrl+x (Move) and Ctrl+A (Select All). You can see your clipboard by hitting Ctrl+c twice.
(You can do it other ways, but that is the quickest). For example, you could copy or cut a number of your text boxes. Go to your new document. Access your clipboard with your multiple text strings and select Paste All - it should paste all that you have on your clipboard into your new document in order. Tell us some more.
